** Today with Julian – July 18th:
Suddenly the Holy Trinity
filled my heart full of great joy!
And in that, I truly understood
what heaven shall be like,
and eternal life for all who shall come there.
For the Trinity is God, and God is the Trinity:
The Trinity is our Maker and our Keeper,
the Trinity is our eternal love without end,
and our unending joy and happiness,
by our Lord Jesus Christ:
for Jesus is Himself the Trinity,
as I see it.

Jesus is not the “Second Person” of the Trinity. Yes, it is confusing that the Church uses the word “Son” in its Trinitarian formula, and also calls Jesus the “Son” of God. So the confusion is understandable. But the first usage is part of the Trinitarian theology of the Nature of God, and the second is part of the Christological theology of the Nature of Christ. They are not meant to be conflated!
Lest we imagine God split in two, or two Gods, one on a heavenly throne and one Incarnate on earth, it behooves us to see in Jesus the fullness of God, the Holy Trinity, Incarnate. The Good News this brings is that it is God’s true nature, by God’s own will, to be just like us. This is the mystery and the comfort of Grace!
