Mother Julian
Because of the reward and the endless favor
that He wishes to give us for it,
He desires to have us pray constantly in His sight.
God accepts the good intention
and the toil of his servants,
no matter how we feel,
wherefore it pleases Him that we work
both in our prayer and in good living,
by His help and His grace,
reasonably with good sense,
keeping our strength for Him
until we have Him whom we seek
in fullness of joy,
that is, Jesus.

When it comes to God, seeking is as good as beholding, says Julian. When it comes to prayer, desiring is as good as trying, and trying is as good as succeeding. Contrary to the popular proverb, it is the road to Heaven which is paved with good intentions. It is our good intentions to pray, to find God, that are met with God’s help and God’s grace. Do you wish that you could pray better? Then you already are praying well. God has put that wish in your heart.
